Let us introduce our newly confirmed participant for HK Photobook Fair (3/24-26) this year: Editions Bessard
Editions Bessard is a Paris-based independant publishing house created by Pierre Bessard in 2011. With its innovative and creative design, and its limited printed edition, Editions Bessard distinguish themselves from the classical photobook publishing house. Publishing both emerging artists and renowned artists as Joan Fontcuberta, Bill Henson, Ed Templeton, Ren Hang or Pieter Hugo, Editions Bessard is always seeking new artists and new ways to realise intellectually challenging projects.
Among these main publications, two collections were created : the Zine collection with its 27 issues were a success (most of them are sold out) and the new one the Bespoke Collection with is 4 first issues. Books of exception in collaboration with chinese artists like History of Monuments by Wang Qinsong, (Leporello book of 8.40 m) or Mengxi 2 by Wei Bi, Han Lei, Luo Yang, Chen Jiagang, Xu Yong… embody the strong attachment of Editions Bessard to China.
讓我們介紹今年3月24至26日舉行,香港攝影書展的新參加者: Editions Bessard

Xu Yong NEGATIVES introduction by Markus Schaden, founder of the Photobook Museum:
The current decade, only half past, deserves a look to the current score. The photobook has achieved popularity, quality and quantity unexpectedly high dimensions. All the more important content and the digital world calls for and the digital photo book. But maybe the right way is indeed in between. This shows an outstanding concept of the Chinese photographer Xu Yong with his brilliant photobook NEGATIVE! A hybrid between analogy and digital. What demands Xu Yong? The viewer can or must reverse the printed in negative colour photographs with his smartphone and thus becomes a (positive) developers in their own digital darkroom. The theme: politically explosive: The China still taboo recordings of the protests on the Tiananmen Square in Beijing in 1989. Fantastic and pioneering. The photobook has arrived in the new decade.
